”Lumberjack Bill,” takes students back to the days when White Pine covered the Great Lake States. Using authentic lumberjack tools for hands on demonstrations, students learn the many jobs in the woods, from choppers to skidders and teamsters to loaders.
Old time movies shot in the 1930’s of the last river drives give students a feel of the dangers of working as a river man. Students are challenged with dozens of questions and invited up front to role-play - everyone participates with sing along. Students learn the story of how early immigrants came to America
and how many of them used their earnings to purchase land and
settle out as farmers. A crossword puzzle is given to teachers to
use as follow up the day after the assembly. This is one history
lesson the children are not soon to forget!
